Today’s home buyer has very high expectations.

Most of their demands are due to the popularity of home remodeling television shows and the effect that Home & Garden Television (HGTV) has had on popular culture. Many of today’s buyers want everything right away. Instead of seeing a home with potential, they want to see a home that looks magazine-perfect.

Years ago, it was common for a young couple to invest in a starter home and say, “It has good bones, lots of potential.” Now it is common for buyers to ask, “Where is the wine fridge?”  In many ways, this exemplifies many of today’s home buyers. They want the Taj Mahal but they have a budget for something much less.

Here are some simple things you can do to make your home more appealing to this buyer:

  1.  Take photos of the main rooms in your home, study them, and ask yourself: Does this home look “move-in-ready”?

2.  Partner with your real estate agent to develop low-cost ways to boost the “wow” factor of your home

3.  Highlight the best features of your home — allowing the potential homebuyer to imagine themselves enjoying the home’s amenities

4.  Make the first impression a lasting one — your front entry should be in like-new condition and aesthetically pleasing
